A brief look at the logo design project was created for photographer Mark O’Neill.
About Mark’s work…
Concentrating on the interplay between light and structure, Mark uses bold manual-lighting, long exposures and strong framing to capture stark and very surreal scenes, from well within the realms of reality. Fine details reveal hidden histories, backed by rich hues inferring the deep moods of darker days. The canvas of the night is daubed with the striking forms and crunchy textures of remarkable and enigmatic structures, from both above and below the surface of our planet. Mark’s work sits at the confluence of these great photographic elements to create a set of striking, dynamic images.
The Logo design
Mark’s logo concept was influenced heavily by two factors, firstly the general overarching themes connecting the subject matter, i.e. the retro feeling, futuristic structures creating surreal scenes. The scenes have a heavily soviet, eastern bloc feel to them seeing as a lot of the locations are based in eastern Europe so a nod to that aspect seemed fitting.
The second was to incorporate a sense of location. So I built an emblem around the idea of a pointer arrow from a map or compass. Combining these two factors gave an overall design that seems to fit nicely with the style.
