A retro style album cover design taking a heavy influence from Snake Plissken…
The late 1970’s and 1980’s were without a doubt the best time for action movies, at least in my humble opinion. OTT storylines and crazy concepts, combined with a vast imagination and creative special effects to create some truly iconic films and characters. As a kid growing up in that era, putting the latest Arnie film into the VHS and sitting down to watch it is a very nostalgic memory.
So when this brief popped up in my inbox I couldn’t wait to get started.
As a huge fan of both the Escape from LA and Escape from New York movies, I was thrilled when Beat Assassins asked me to take heavy influence from their posters and create my own versions for their digital covers.
Both covers use a variety of effects and overlays to give them a nostalgic 1980s feel. The images were given a lot of processing to give them an almost hand painted feel, with strong colours and a worn overlay to make them look like they’ve just been dug out of someone’s attic.
I had a lot of fun working on these covers, and I hope everyone enjoys them as much as I enjoyed making them.
